Ketcham Inn Foundation
Ketcham Inn Foundation, Inc. interprets over 330 years of history on Long Island's South Shore. Established in 1989, the Foundation developed a mission to restore the Terry-Ketcham Inn, a settlement site, resident blacksmith, social center, meeting house, former stagecoach stop between Manhattan and Sag Harbor during the 18th and 19th century. Today a well established living History Museum and Cultural Center for the education of American heritage. Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation has funded a large part of the interior restoration of the Ketcham Inn, including restoration of the historic floor plan and all architectural finish woodwork with a masterful ceiling and wall plaster job. The Gardiner Foundation has also funded the development of our educational cooking programs under the direction of Diane Schwindt, Resident Historic Cook and Educator. These programs provide a hands-on cooking experience, preparing specialty meals researched from colonial-era First Lady cookbooks and seen in paintings depicting meal preparation. All meals are prepared in a restored 17th century hearth and bake oven using period and reproduction utensils enabled by the Robert David Lion Gardiner grant.
