ABOUT THE WATERFRONT MUSEUM
The Waterfront Museum is housed aboard the 1914 Lehigh Valley No. 79, an all-wooden railroad barge docked in
Red Hook Brooklyn. The barge formerly carried up to 300 tons of perishable cargo between ships in the New York
Harbor and train terminals prior to today’s system of containerization which utilizes trucks, highways, bridges and
tunnels. Rescued from extinction in 1985 by entertainer/juggler David Sharps, the one-of-a-kind barge operates
today as a US Coast Guard-certified attraction vessel. The Barge is a floating museum, classroom and showboat
providing free year-round, bi-weekly open boat visits, school field trips and showboat performances featuring a
music, theatre, dance and vaudeville.. For more information visit www.waterfrontmuseum.org.
